My Nordic Christmas table

Do you need inspiration for your Christmas table? Then, I hope this article should help you. Today, I'm sharing photos and tips to set a Nordic Christmas table. Keeping in mind a slow and sustainable Christmas, I chose to style a table with Scandinavian influences. Minimalist and inspired by nature.

Mismatched ceramics

In Japan you rarely buy whole tableware services. On the contrary, Japanese like to mismatch their plates. After three years living, in Tokyo I too was won over by this way of doing things. As I love buying beautiful ceramic plates but having a small budget, I always buy the plates in pairs. And not by four or six pieces. This allows me to vary the way I style my table at a lower cost. When we receive people at home, I mix the different plates. I think it brings character and originality to the table. Here, the gray, cream and water green tones of my plates go perfectly with my organic cotton tablecloth, which is also green. My water glasses are ceramic as well. They are all different but were made by the same ceramicist in Japan. Their white color is very easy to combine with the rest of my dishes. For cutlery, I simply used my everyday cutlery. They are matte and have vintage vibes.

A green table decoration

I didn't want to invest in decorations. For this Christmas table, I only bought eucalyptus and a few pine branches from my florist. I already had candle holders, cotton branches and pine cones at home. I started to install my tablecloth and my dishes, then I gradually added the table decorations. I placed the pine branches first in the center of the table to create a natural table runner. I did not decorate the ends of the table to not overload and to make room for the dishes that will be served during lunch or dinner. I added my four candlesticks staggered along the pine branches. I then placed the pine cones about the same distance from each other, starting at the end of the table runner. Then, I put cotton flowers (previously cut on a cotton branch that I had at home) between each pine cones. The final touch is this superb bouquet of eucalyptus leaves. It cost me only 3, 50 euros and makes sensation . For a minimalist and vegetal touch.

The little details that make the difference

  • Light several candles for a warm and cozy atmosphere. I chose long old pink colored candles made in Denmark. The old pink and the green of the tablecloth match perfectly.

  • Use napkins to mark the place for each guest. I put white linen napkins on the table in front of each chair. I then put the plates on top. The towels can be used during the meal or other towels can be provided to keep the decor throughout the evening.

  • Have a little attention for your guests. I love charming illustrated cards. I chose my four favorite greeting cards and dropped a note for each one of my guests. They bring a colorful and slow Christmas touch to my table. Last year I made Christmas gingerbread cookies which I placed on each plates.
